What is assesment tax??

Answer :
It is a tax levied on rated holdings like Residential Building, Business Building Shop, Business Complex, Office, Hotel, Workshop, Petrol Station and Cinema, Industrial Building Factory, Warehouse, Plant, Depot or Station, Empty lot Building, Agriculture, Industrial and Business lots locatedin the District Council.

When must it be paid?

Answer :

Twice annually :

First half – January 1st till February 28th each year
Second half - July 1st till August 31st each year

What type of action for failure to pay on time?

Answer:

According to the Local Government Act 1976, the following actions can be taken :-

e-Form Notice will be issued to you. You will be required to settle the payment within 15 days of the notice date. Fine/late charges will be charged on the final outstanding balance under Section 147 (I) Local Government Act 1976.

Question :

How many Local Authorities (PBT) are there in Malaysia now?

Answer:

145 PBT (including Kuala Lumpur City Hall), comprising 31 Municipal Councils; and 114 District Councils.Apart from this, there are also other bodies which are given authority by the respective state governments to undertake specific functions like: Kulim Hi-Tech PBT, Pasir Gudang PBT, Putrajaya Corporation etc.

Are all Local Authorities in Malaysia under the purview of the Federal Housing and Local Government Ministry?

Answer:

All Local Authorities fall under the purview of their respective State Governments. The Federal Housing and Local Government Ministry supervises Local Authorities with regard to uniformity of policies and legislation, provides guidance and technical advice, and channels funds allocated by the Federal Government.

How can I lodge an official complaint regarding issues or problems I may face within the jurisdiction of the Local Authority?

Answer:

All complaints can be forwarded directly to the Local Authority or the Federal Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Is bulk waste (used mattress, old furniture etc.) collected with the same frequency as normal waste?

Answer:

Bulk waste is only collected once a week.

Question :

If the responsible parties do not fulfill their duties like waste collection, what can I do?

Answer:

You can lodge a complaint with the Local Authority closest to you, and they will ensure the appropriate action is swiftly taken.

What do the colours of the Recycling Bins stand for?

Answer:

The color coding stands for the following :

  • Blue - For paper
  • Orange - For aluminium tins, metal cans and plastics
  • Brown - For glass
